Chicago-based Fifield Companies and its joint-venture partner, Pacific Life Insurance Co. of Newport Beach, Calif., have announced that Alta at K Station in downtown Chicago has been awarded Gold LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The two-tower complex of 848 luxury residences is the largest apartment building in the country to have earned Gold LEED honors.
Located at 555 W. Kinzie St., Alta at K Station earned this prestigious designation through a number of green construction practices, including recycling building materials; reducing its energy consumption; creating a green roof and landscaping that requires minimal water; maximizing the natural light and views in each unit; and meeting an advanced standard for the indoor air quality.
“As Chicago is one of the greenest cities in the country, it’s fitting that we chose our hometown to develop the largest Gold LEED apartment complex,” says Steven Fifield, president and founder of Fifield Companies. “We wanted to challenge ourselves to show the public that a luxury apartment building can also be eco-friendly, especially on such a large scale as Alta at K Station. The apartments are on par with some of the finest condominiums in Chicago and the amenities rival those of an upscale hotel.”
Residences at Alta at K Station have floor-to-ceiling windows; kitchens with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances; ceramic tile baths with oversized vanities; in-home laundry areas with washer and dryer; and individually controlled heating and air conditioning. Studio, one- and two-bedroom floor plans with one to two baths are available in each tower. Floor plans range from 508 to 1,807 square feet with rents starting at $1,455 per month. The apartment complex’s West Tower, which opened in March 2010, is already more than 70 percent leased, while its East Tower, which opened in June 2010 is more than 50 percent leased.
“Based on the positive response we’ve had to Alta, we’re pledging that every apartment building we develop going forward will be LEED certified,” says Fifield. “They may not all be Gold LEED like Alta at K Station, but the benefits of a green building are too numerous to ignore – from both a business perspective and the environment.”
Residents also enjoy a host of on-site amenities and an ideal location just outside of the Chicago Loop.
Eight model units are available to tour. For more information on Alta at K Station, call (312) 880-4800, visit www.altaatkstation.com or stop by the on-site leasing center, which is open seven days a week and located in the east tower.
