AT A GLANCE
Punta Cana beaches have become one of the main attractions on the east coast of Dominican Republic. The 20 miles of powder-white sand and the quickly-growing resort area has earned Punta Cana the nickname “The New Caribbean.” The deserted beaches with coconut palms make Punta Canta the spot for rest and relaxation. For adventurers, the area also offers safari-type excursions, horseback riding and snorkeling at the Marinarium.
Set in the eastern shores of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, Playas Macao will include 44 villas, a boutique hotel with 32 bungalow-style rooms and 298 condominiums. This beach-front enclave houses the residences in a private area of the region. Prices range from the low $200,000s to high $500,000s.
The 44 tri-level villas each have a private lagoon and swimming pool. Mixing indoors with outdoors, the villas include a rooftop terrace kitchen with views of the Caribbean and large open areas extending to outdoor decks that appear to float. Natural wood, coral stone and other organic materials are expressed in clean, modern lines.
The 32 hotel bungalows have direct beach views and have one bedroom and one bathroom. Set on the resort’s highest levels, the 298 condominiums feature sweeping views of ocean and lush vegetation throughout the enclave. The condominiums have many of the same amenities as the villas and bungalows, which include central air, cable television, wi-fi internet connectivity and in-room Skype phones.
The resort will also include a 15,000-square-foot world-class European spa and health club and two full- service restaurants serving casual dining and fine cuisine There is also a 5,000 square-foot ocean-front beach night club and six pools amidst the tropical landscape.
Playas Macao has committed to reducing its impact on the environment through amenities that minimize the waste of water and by supplementing electricity use through power augmentation systems such as solar and wind sources. Additionally, the resort will create living spaces that promote natural cooling to reduce the use of central air.
Playas Macao will be built on 35 acres along the Punta Cana coast and is set to break ground this month, with completion in early 2010.
