Real estate has always been the family business for Steve Smith, whose mother was a Realtor. “I’ve literally been talking about real estate at the dinner table for 40 years,” he shares. Now an 18-year industry veteran, he is known for his unique problem-solving skills. “I always take the time to thoroughly answer all my clients’ questions,” he explains. “I often close loans for clients that other lenders said could not be done.”

A senior mortgage consultant with Wintrust Mortgage, Smith is licensed in all 50 states and serves clients seeking down-payment assistance; conventional, jumbo, FHA, VA and USDA mortgages; and construction-to-permanent and portfolio lending. “I am always available to my clients and referral sources,” he declares. “My cell phone is constantly buzzing from a text or a call, and I respond 24-7.”

Smith recently made the move to Wintrust Mortgage after working with another company for almost 15 years. During his first year with the company, he led all new hires in units and volume and earned membership in the Wintrust Mortgage President’s Circle. “This is both a testament of my hard work and representing an amazing company,” he says. In past years, he has ranked among the top 1% of loan originators in the United States, appeared in Who’s Who in Residential Real Estate for both Chicago and Lake Geneva and received a consistent stream of honors and awards in recognition of his professional excellence.

A supporter of York Community High School’s York Music Boosters, Smith is a musician himself and performs with the band Tributosaurus in Chicago a few times a year. He is an avid fisherman and has been featured on TV and the YouTube show “The Musky Hunter” numerous times.
