Committed to cultivating a dynamic and agile real estate community by delivering robust resources and opportunities for growth one member at a time, the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors (NSBAR) found ways during the pandemic-year not only to survive, but to thrive — including by creating and activating an ambitious three-year strategic plan.

“We embraced the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 crisis as a time of opportunity and reinvention,” notes Jeff Lasky, NSBAR CEO. “We re-examined everything we do in terms of member service delivery, seeking areas of genuine process improvement. One example was how our professional development courses and events pivoted overnight to an all-virtual footing, seeing huge increases in engagement.”

Among the accomplishments of the past year: a strategic alliance with the Northern Illinois Commercial Association of REALTORS (NICAR), establishment of a new holding company and referral network, enhanced outbound member outreach services, and development of a new NSBAR Leadership Institute to identify and prepare future leaders for service.

“Of all we’ve done, I’m most proud of how we affirmed our commitment to the communities we serve through our NSBAR Cares philanthropic initiative,” says 2020-21 Board President Brad W. Andersen. “By unifying our efforts, we’re able to amplify impact and demonstrate that Realtors are good neighbors by supporting a number of local charities and community-based causes.”

Andersen — principal broker of The GGL Group in Lake Forest/Lake Bluff — will soon pass the gavel on to Steve Hudson, designated managing broker at Compass in Winnetka. In September, Hudson will be officially installed as the 2021-2022 NSBAR board president.

During his upcoming term, Hudson will put an even greater emphasis on the organization’s outreach efforts. “In addition to what we’re doing with community outreach through NSBAR Cares, I want to expand engagement within the real estate community itself by leveraging the scope of our virtual events and bringing back the powerful impact of in-person gatherings that we have all so missed,” says Hudson. “I also see opportunities for us to become more directly involved with our many civic leadership and local governments, becoming a trusted source of information to them and advising on issues impacting home ownership and private property rights as the ‘voice for real estate.’”
