Sarah Elder Lyons, Broker

Compass Real Estate

Immersed in the real estate industry at a young age, Sarah Elder Lyons has a deep personal connection to her work. “My family owned the Mason City Lumber Company, and I grew up watching my architect father draw, design and build tons of homes and buildings,” she says.

With 14 years of experience, Lyons serves buyers and sellers in Chicago and the North Shore’s luxury markets. She has also worked with SIRVA relocation services to assist families moving to the Greater Chicago area from out of state and hopes to expand her business to include commercial real estate and working with investors.

Lyons spent her first five years with Coldwell Banker — where she ranked among the top 3 percent of agents worldwide — and then spent another nine years at @properties before making a transition to Compass. “It was a hard and challenging decision, as I loved working for @properties, but my goal was to move to a national and global company,” she says. “I’m hoping it will help grow my business in other markets in the U.S. and internationally.”

Prior to earning her license, Lyons worked in marketing, advertising and sales at BBDO, Fallon McElligott Rice and Dun & Bradstreet. “Having to coordinate media, production, creative and finance departments on top of clients is similar to my current responsibilities,” says Lyons. Thanks to her background, Lyons excels at marketing her own properties, designing effective collateral and promoting her listings.

Lyons is a member of the International Association of Real Estate Professionals, Women’s Council of Realtors Illinois and North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors. She has served on the Auxiliary of the Woman’s Board of Rush University Medical Center and volunteers with the Simpson Academy for Young Women.

Lyons is the proud mom of three daughters. She loves music; she sings in her church choir, plays the piano and guitar, and has a daughter who is a country musician. She loves to snow ski, run marathons, participate in CorePower Yoga and SoulCycle classes, and play paddle tennis. Along with her sisters, Lyons is a one-third owner of Elder Farm Partners, managing a 100-year-old family farm in North Iowa.
