Kat Barry & Stuart Blaylock, Broker and Team Leader, Broker

Kat Barry & Company, Compass

Kat Barry and Stuart Blaylock have more than two decades of experience combined and represent two of the city’s sharpest minds in real estate. Barry specializes in the Logan Square, Bucktown, Humboldt Park, Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village markets, and Blaylock focuses on listings in the West Loop, South Loop, Bronzeville, Hyde Park and Kenwood. Since both do business in the Gold Coast and North Side, they’ve got most of Chicago’s top neighborhoods covered, but they come at the job with an outsider’s point of view. Barry started selling real estate in Madison, Wisconsin, before moving to Pittsburgh, and Blaylock in began his career in Houston.

“Having been agents in other cities, we bring a unique perspective to Chicago’s market,” they explain. “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to learn a new real estate market and build a business from the ground up.” While both started in real estate at age 25, this is their first year as a team.

Named a top producer by the Chicago Association of Realtors in 2017 and 2018, Blaylock made his first entry into sales at a Southern Methodist University telethon while enrolled there as a student. “It was probably the best way to enter the sales industry since ‘selling’ donations is one of the hardest things you can do,” he says. “Over the course of two years, I was the top fundraiser with a total of over $100,000 in donations.”

One of Realtor Magazine’s 30 Under 30 Class of 2009 and a Certified International Property Specialist, Barry also got an early introduction to sales, holding down service industry roles and selling Cutco knives while in college. “This helped me prepare for all the balls you have to juggle in real estate,” she says. Barry recently obtained her GREEN designation and is ready to help clients focus on energy efficiency and incorporate smart technology in their homes.

A self-described architecture and history buff, Blaylock is a member of the Field Museum and the Art Institute, where Barry is also a member. Barry supports The Humane League, Logan Square Preservation and the Alliance Française. She is also a vegan cookbook author and lifestyle writer.
