Practicing real estate law gives Jeff Bier a great sense of satisfaction. “It’s gratifying to know that when I walk out of a closing, one party is going straight to their new home and the other party is — hopefully — going straight to the bank with a big check,” he says. “That is a nice feeling and makes the work fulfilling.”
Bier, a real estate attorney with Bier Dobek Associates LLC, assists buyers and sellers in Chicago and the suburbs with residential properties. In addition to standard transactions, he also handles REO deals, tax appeals and, in limited circumstances, commercial litigation.
“This past year has been about being a good friend, being there for others when they needed me and helping them through difficulties — both as a lawyer and a listener,” Bier says. It was also a year of new beginnings. Bier joined up with two veterans of commercial and residential real estate and a finance expert to found BMS Ventures, which is focused on acquisition and development in qualified opportunity zones. His role in the company is as a partner and general counsel.
