Everyone Knows that 2009 is going to be a challenging year. With that being said, I believe there is still plenty of opportunities ahead of us. I am preparing for the new year with a plan to get back to the basics, with a healthy focus on networking, education and my family.

My focus for 2009 is the same that I have had for the past 30 years: to sell as much as I can, service my client database often and to exceed expectations even in the most trying transactions. I’ve found that this plan keeps me in good stead and keeps clients coming back. Though the market is challenging right now, I’ve found that by keeping that perspective that it’s a challenge to be met rather than a problem to be overcome, works as a good motivator.

First, we analyzed sales in our local market and identified neighborhoods where sales were best last year. This year, we will devote special marketing efforts to those areas. Second, we will reach out more aggressively to past clients, especially those who have referred business to us. Finally, we are putting increased emphasis on first-time buyers, particularly during the early months of 2009 when the $7,500 tax credit remains in effect.

A new year brings a fresh start. This is the time of year to reflect on the success you had in 2008, and also think about where you may have fallen short. More importantly, it’s also the time to focus on specific goals you want to achieve in the coming year. I plan to write out a list of personal and professional goals to work toward in 2009, and commit to some basic fundamentals in my business that will lead to a successful 2009, regardless of the market conditions.
