According to featuresblogs.ChicagoTribune.com/theskyline, the two-story store at State and Madison Streets is scheduled to open next year. In addition to clothing and other essentials, it will sell fresh food; a recent addition to many of Target’s stores.

“I applaud Target for bringing this urban store concept to Chicago, as well as the new jobs and economic opportunity this store will create,” says Mayor Richard M. Daley. “Target will be an important addition to State Street, one of Chicago’s most important retail centers, and will be located in one of the city’s most architecturally significant buildings.”

Known as CityTarget, the chain has similar urban stores in New York and scheduled to open in Los Angeles and Seattle, according to NBCChicago.com. Target also has their eye on a possible Lakeview location at 2840 N. Broadway.

Target has created strong partnerships with the city since 1993 through its community giving programs. The company yesterday donated 17,000 books to local K-8 Chicago schools as well as monetary donations to each school’s libraries.
