Julie Bristow, Broker Associate, Prudential American Heritage, Barrington

by Chicago Agent

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first job is my current job! It’s very exciting to be on the ground level of a start-up, watching our managing broker recruit a wonderful team of agents.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Champaign. My mother was in real estate, which is what sparked the interest and created a desire to follow in her footsteps.

What is your favorite free-time activity? I love to play golf, run with my dog and go on bike rides. Anything to be outside.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I enjoy a good run, yoga, Pilates and meditation.

If you weren’t a Realtor, what would you be? I suppose I would be involved in some sort of sales job. I enjoy being able to help people, and finding a new home for them or selling their current home is a great feeling! It is such an emotional time, and with that comes a lot of managing of expectations.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Betty Ford, because I love the way she approached controversial subjects with the utmost grace. I believe she was instrumental in allowing women to speak up about private and personal issues without judgment.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? My favorite place to hang out would have to be the beach – watching people, soaking up the sun and occasionally catching a wave.

What do you love most about the industry? I love that everyday is different and you can do a variety of activities each day to grow your business.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I am distinguishing myself from other agents with my commitment to the “green” aspect of homes, and educating people on the benefits of “going green.” It is easy to do so when it is your passion.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I meet people everywhere I go, but I actually meet new clients while out to lunch or dinner. I prefer to sit at the bar to eat, and I’m almost always on my computer while dining, so conversations start if they peek at the screen.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? The last movie I saw that I really liked was Just Go With It, a perfect comedy with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. The last book I read was Katie Couric’s “The Best Advice I Ever Got.”

What is your favorite restaurant? D & J Bistro in Lake Zurich. It’s a unique French bistro with an ever-changing menu and a quaint environment.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago? The Smart Home at the Museum of Science and Industry.

What kind of car do you drive? BMW convertible.

What’s your favorite Real Estate iPhone/ Blackberry app? Zillow.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Connect with a mentor; tell everyone you are an agent.
