Ilona Mikula, Realtor Associate, Jameson Real Estate, South Loop-West Loop-Bucktown

What was your first job in the realty industry?
I worked with a top-producing agent as a real estate assistant.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
I love to travel and design. And, having an interior design background, I enjoy giving clients creative ideas for their newly purchased home.

How did you learn the business?
Working with an experienced and very well-established real estate professional gave me an edge: great experience. It also taught me a lot about the business.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Working day and night and trying to push myself to work more effectively. You have to be very organized and disciplined. You don’t really have anybody telling you what to do.

What was your worst job, and what did you learn from it?
The worst job I had was working as a secretary for a marble and granite company. The job was extremely redundant. I would count the minutes until it was time to close. I learned that I was a people person and needed to be out with people. That is the reason I like real estate so much; every day is different.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients?
As a real estate professional, one must stay connected with their clients and peers. I try to make broker events for new projects and resales. Meeting up with friends is fun and a great way to get new business as well. After all, referrals are my main source of business.

What kind of car do you drive?
Lexus IS

BlackBerry, iPhone or paper?
BlackBerry

What is your favorite city after Chicago?
Miami

What is your personal motto?
Carpe Diem

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Team up with a smart, strong and productive real estate group.
