I’d Like to Thank the Academy

by Chicago Agent

Agent X loves awards! My desk is littered with so many awards for this and that I can hardly find my typewriter. Congrats to all the winners of AgentsÕ Choice Awards, and donÕt forget to thank me in your acceptance speech.
Lots of moving and shaking this week, which is pretty neat in a time when some people are holding on to their jobs for dear life. Elyece Miller has left Baird & Warner and is now broker/owner of Royal Real Estate of Illinois and Royal Builders based in St. Charles. Her brother, Lance Webb, runs the building company that was started by her father. ItÕs nice to have family in high places.

Everyone thought that Barbara OÕConnor would head to Jameson after ditching Baird & Warner, but she fooled us all and went to Koenig & Strey. ChicagolandÕs Favorite Sales & Marketing Company did nab a new vice president of development and operations and hired Sandra Farrell, who has over 15 years experience in residential real estate development. This is nothing compared to my experience.

Opus North Corp. is pretty pleased with Matt Nix and Mike Youngerman, because they have been promoted to VP of development in the residential and mixed-use development division and vice-president of development in the industrial development division, respectively.

Our buddy Dan McLean has gotten a lot of attention these past few weeks. IÕm sure youÕve read all about it in a number of other lesser publications, so I wonÕt go there. However, youÕd think the lawyers couldÕve waited until after he was finished being honored as a real estate legend before handing him a lawsuit. Good olÕ Trump has been in the news a lot lately as well. First he sues his lenders for more time to pay off his loan, and then word is that the editor of the Chicago Sun-Times flipped a Trump condo and made a pretty penny.

Party time! The Live Downtown Naperville committee hosted a new membership cocktail hour to recruit members from the real estate community. Jack Persin and Gail Niermeyer did quite the job getting local builders to come on down. Their Holiday Home Tour will take place Dec. 6 and 7 with free admission, and all homes participating must be over $1 million.

WCR hosted another good one on Nov. 12 at Maeve Wine Bar with a wine tasting and client gift ideas. The place was packed right up to the end with some extra-late-nighters heading over to MoeÕs Cantina for sangria. Their inaugural event will take place at the Spire on Dec. 10 with a silent auction. Agent X isnÕt good at staying silent.

Applus Home InspectionÕs former girls hosted a kick-off party for their new company Raymi Productions. The line to the Peruvian food was a mile long, but it was worth the wait.

New West was going to relocate their trademark Taylor Street office to the South Loop, but they made a surprise decision to keep it open and running. Agent X had heard maybe they would close it down to save some duckets, so kudos for having the gumption to move forward with two offices.

The Lincoln Park Builders hosted a real estate forum panel discussion at Navy Pier with well over 800 people registered. Dinner and drinks were involved, so of course Agent X was present.

IÕve finally got some birthdays! Our own Kelly Mellot celebrated on Nov. 3. Misty OlsonÕs birthday was on Nov. 5 and Karri ChathamÕs was on Nov. 6. Jim Roth turned 23 yet again on Nov. 9., and Neena Vlamis also partied on the same day Ñ no word on her age.
