Alex Filin

Vice President of Residential Lending
PERL Mortgage

Alex Filin’s path to success in lending began with his first job with New York Life, where he achieved three executive council memberships in his first three years. Filin qualified and began his career as a Partner in the Chicago North Shore General Office. As one of the youngest partners in the company, he earned three Gathering of the Eagles awards for recruiting. In 2015 he moved to PERL Mortgage to join a company culture he admired, as well as close friends who who he had known for more than a decade. That next step in his career, which he describes as a “leap of faith,” was ultimately the best decision he could have made.

The son of Latvian immigrants, Filin grew up in Skokie after moving to the United States when he was six years old, and is fluent in Russian. He attended Illinois State University on a full athletic scholarship to play football, and majored in business administration. He says his experiences playing college football helped him build up his work ethic and hone his time management skills, both essential in a field where transactions move quickly and every detail is crucial.

Filin typically serves first-time homebuyers, taking every opportunity to educate consumers on the loan process. “PERL offers the same level of expertise and professionalism I have always built my business around,” he says. He understands that buying a home is an incredibly important milestone, and takes great care to manage every relationship with respect.

Family is central to Filin’s happiness and professional success. His wife, Jenny, and his parents inspire him to push for success. “My parents sacrificed so much when we all emigrated from Latvia,” he says. Filin also works to provide an example for his younger brother. “Setting high expectations for him is extremely important to me,” he says. “He is like a little mini-me.”

Though Filin is focused on his career, he maintains a positive and balanced outlook on life. “My glass is always half full, if not overflowing. Life is too short to focus on the negative!”
