Joe Caltabiano is one of the top loan officers in the country, and has consistently been ranked in the top 200 loan officers since 2005. Just last month, he was ranked as the No. 3 originator in the nation by Origination News, and the No. 5 originator nationally by Scotsman Guide and Mortgage Executive Magazine. He is also the No. 1 originator by loan volume in the state of Illinois, and is No. 1 nationally for Guaranteed Rate. He has closed more than $100 million in loans every year since 2004.
One thing that often escapes Caltabiano is a night where he leaves work early. Since starting in the mortgage industry in 2001, and at Guaranteed Rate in 2003, he has had continued growth and success due to his constant availability, work ethic and “get it done” mentality.
“I read every guideline, frequently sit with underwriters and meet with major players in the industry as often as possible,” Caltabiano says. “I challenge others to find someone in the mortgage industry who knows more about the origination side of the business. My vast knowledge, extensive experience and low rates are what generate referrals.”
The majority of Caltabiano’s work revolves around luxury, new construction and first-time homebuyers in the many Chicago neighborhoods. Although he has worked with athletes and celebrities, he truly enjoys doing Veterans Affairs loans for those who’ve served this country.
“I’ve been very fortunate, worked with some incredible people and am humbled by the array of compliments over the years,” he said. “One client referred his mother to me, and I think that’s when you know you’re doing something right.”
Currently, Caltabiano is buying properties, dabbling with development and investing in large-scale condo projects. He hopes to become the No. 1 loan officer in the country within the next couple of years. In his spare time, he enjoys being on his boat in Lake Michigan with his wife Annie, two small children, friends and the family’s yellow lab, Captain.
