Amy-Sherpardson-Sales-Associate-Ryland Homes

Amy Sherpardson is a sales associate with Ryland Homes

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first job in the realty industry was in 1995, as a bookkeeper for a real estate developer. It was a small, local company that bought land and developed shopping centers throughout the Chicago suburbs. My work experience there piqued my interest in real estate which motivated me to get my real estate license. Soon after, I started selling homes, first as a Realtor, and then as a sales counselor for Ryland Homes.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Carol Stream and graduated high school at St. Francis in Wheaton.

What is your favorite free-time activity? My favorite free-time activity is spending time with my husband, Jerry, and 10 year old son, Ryder.  We enjoy doing things together outside, like riding bikes or hanging out with our friends.  We also enjoy cooking for and sharing meals with our friends.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I run outside. As soon as I lace up my shoes, I start feeling better!

Growing up, what did you want to be? A real estate agent or advertising executive.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Princess Diana. I remember, as a young girl, being fascinated with her when I watched her wedding ceremony on TV. I would love to hear her stories of how she lived the life of a royal princess, as well as learn from her experiences with all of her charity work.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? At home.

What do you love most about the industry? I love that it is always changing, which motivates me to learn new things and challenge myself.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I strive to be true. True to my customers, true to my company and true to myself. I have been working hard and learning from my 19 years of experience to become an expert, dedicated to making sure that my customers have the home that best fits their lifestyle now and for years to come.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? At the end of the day, I don’t like to leave anything unfinished. I just wish there was more time to do everything I’d like to accomplish.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Anywhere I meet someone provides an opportunity to network. I’ve made connections at neighborhood parties, church, my son’s sporting events, chamber mixers and broker events.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? It’s not one thing.  My greatest accomplishment is just being where I am in the moment. I feel accomplished being a mother, wife and doing the work that I love. It’s a matter of accomplishing things every day, whether great or small, as well as learning from my failures, that makes me feel complete.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? The Life of Pi. Great storytelling of an adventure that unfolds to demonstrate an even greater message.

What is your favorite restaurant? La Hacienda – love Mexican cuisine and the margaritas!

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Be yourself, be true and seek to understand.
