Agent X: Start the New Year Off Right

by Agent X

What better way to start off the New Year than frolicking around in freezing cold temperatures? At least there is a bit of a snowy wonderland to ease the pain, and everyone has an excuse to pull out some hardcore winter accessories that up until now were vacuum-sealed in a closet. Of course, I’m writing this from my private island where the temperature is always 82 degrees, but I’ve heard from my friends back home in Chicago that the polar vortex has returned. As you curl up next to the fire with your mug of hot toddy and your latest issue of CA, think of all of the exciting opportunities that 2015 might bring, in addition to the oodles of gossip.

Thad Wong is getting his good deeds for the year out of the way early by participating in the Pay it Forward initiative on Facebook. The first five people who commented with “I’m in” on Thad’s status will receive a surprise at some point during the year. Those five people then will have to post the same thing on their wall, and so forth and so on. It’s like a friendly chain letter with only sunshine and rainbows and no threat of evil doings if you don’t keep the chain going. I was late to the party and didn’t respond to Thad’s status in time, so congrats to these folks for being on Facebook at the right time: Debbie Magnusen, Barbara Martino-Silva, Sabrina Bier, John Vossoughi and Stephanie Sadoff. If your name is on this list, please share what you get and when; inquiring minds want to know.

Apparently all this good cheer is catching in January, because a ton of folks decided to repost and share the sentiment and credit Thad with the craze. Stephen Hnatow went even further on the lollipop of happiness spectrum by reminding us that there is no need to stop at just five people.

Lots of excitement in the air for Tommy Choi! His baby girl Mosely was born on Jan. 4, joining big sister Henly. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the proud papa also made his “House Hunters” debut on Jan. 7. You can decide which one of these big events is more life changing, because I know which one I’d choose.

Parties don’t have to stop just because the holidays are over! On Jan. 7 the WCR West Suburban Chapter hosted a program on how to run your business like a CEO. They asked me to come speak, but I was too busy on holiday, so they found someone else. That person did a nice job, but failed to ask me for tips.

On Jan. 9, HBAGC held their 75th Celebration Installation of Officers in Arlington Heights at the European Crystal Banquet. Nothing says European banquet like installing officers! In case you were wondering, the appropriate present for a 75th anniversary is diamond or gold.

The WCR likes to stay busy in January. On the 15th, the North Shore Chapter will hold an Economic Outlook in Skokie at Maggiano’s from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Go for the food, stay for the speech from David Oppedahl, Senior Business Economist from Federal Reserve Bank Chicago. I can’t promise that there will be any cocktails, because the event is during the day.

Turns out a lot of people in the real estate industry have a birthday in January. Leslie Struthers was born on Jan. 2, making her one day shy of having a birthday on a national holiday. I hope that Kelly Price, Dana Shaut and Marc Churchill are all best friends and that they all celebrated their birthdays together on the 5th, 6th, and 7th, respectively. Jan. 12 is a super popular birthday, which belongs to Gary Ouellette, JD Cortese and Jennifer Peterson. Kevin Rocio landed on lucky number 13, while Vince Milito, Alex Zupancic, Camille Kearns Rudy and Jeff Baker will have some fun on Jan. 14th. George Schultz will celebrate on the 15th, and Donna Griffin will eat cake on the 16th. Enjoy!
