New construction has developed into a complicated story on both local and national levels. Metrics like year-over-year comparisons of new home starts and counts of issued permits must be balanced within the context of both larger market trends and local factors like ARO, neighborhood differences and local incomes.

That is why we examined new construction activity through a few different lenses for this issue. We took a closer look at the obstacles builders currently face (it’s more than just land and labor); the technologies transforming construction around the world; the consumer trends driving the single- family and multifamily offerings here at home, and many other factors that fit into a complete picture of local new construction heading into spring.
